Reports coming in shows visuals of an alleged victim of police brutality on Shiite members killed in a reported attack during their Ashura procession in Kaduna state.
According to a twitter user, @Arrafidhy who posted the graphic images, she says the ‘martyr’ was shot in the head by members of the Nigerian police.
Several reports have it that Nigerian security forces have attacked mourners marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH) on Ashura, killing at least three people and injuring many others.
The mourners came under attack in cities and towns across four states, including Kaduna in Nigeria’s north, on Tuesday.
El-Zakzaky’s office had tweeted Tuesday afternoon also, saying ”Scores of Ashura mourners have been confirmed martyred in Kaduna, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina and Gombe, hundreds were injured by gunshot, another hundred arrested across the states; in an unprovoked attack by Nigerian securities on followers of Sheikh Zakzaky.”
Reports said three people were killed and many more wounded in the crackdown.
The reports also have it that the Nigerian forces also used tear gas to break up the processions.
Witnesses said the capital, Abuja, was put on lockdown, with blocks set up to prevent Ashura mourners from holding gatherings.
The Muslims were mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH), along with his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against thousands of soldiers of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
